It is sometimes a little too loyal to its source material, which could have used some re-imagining after 20 years.
Still, it is nice to see a superhero movie with a bit of nuance. This movie is a welcome departure from the Spiderman, Superman movies.
I only ever have 2 expectations going into a zack Snyder movie: 1. A unique and highly polished aesthetic that is truly above any out there today. 2. A really interesting backdrop of a story to facilitate hardcore ass kicking scene that are not inhibited by a director trying to appeal to a mass audience. By all means, if done properly, these two things alone can be enough to keep me watching. Now, it is to be expected that you will have elements like hammy, over dramatic almost cartoon like acting and overtly kampy dialog. But that is what he is going for, and the inner geek in me thought it was coooooool. PS: Will agrees with me.
