
Trekkers hate it, but I love it.
J.J. Abrams is a steely-eyed genius – the man knows how to get me on the edge of my seat (i.e. Lost and Fringe).
A lot of the trekkers criticism of the new Star Trek is that it isn't cerebral enough – its all flash and no substance. They have a point, but the flash is quite brilliant.
I gloss over this criticism largely because I believe that subsequent sequels will dig deeper into the Star Trek ethos. I expect the second flick to be analogous to Batman Begins and The Dark Night. Abrams gave the new Star Trek franchise a lot of room to grow – lets hope it does.
